Trailblazing ENTJ personalities are driven by their insatiable need to improve efficiencies and attain their grandiose goals by expertly manipulating those around them due to their above-par strategic thinking skills.

ENTJs are narcissistic as they possess a profound intellectual acuity that enables them to clinically analyze people and systems, coupled with outstanding leadership and communication skills. So, they are self-absorbed, power-hungry, and adept at persuading people to do their bidding.

While it might seem evident why ENTJ personalities are narcissistic, they are multifaceted, complex characters that require further scrutiny. So, if you want to know what you are dealing with – read on!

The Myers-Briggs Indicator

This personality questionnaire was devised by Katherine Briggs in partnership with her daughter Isabel Myers from 1920-to 1940, and it has stood the test of time.

The questionnaire is based on the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung’s assertion that humans make sense of the world either by introversion, extraversion, intuitively, or sensing, according to their feelings, thoughts, perceptions, or judgments.

There are 16 Myers-Briggs personality types, and the test results are produced with four letters that indicate key personality traits; therefore, ENTJ denotes extraversion, intuition, thinking, and judging.

ENTJ Personality Traits

ENTJ personalities are invigorated by spending time with people (extraversion) and discussing grand ideas without the details (intuition). They make decisions based on reasoning (thinking) and favor organized environments (judging) instead of spontaneity.

It is a rare personality type as only 2% of the population are classified as ENTJ’s, of which 3% are males, and a mere 1% of the population are females.

So, they are called Commanders who thrive as leaders due to their assertive natures, above-par strategic thinking, and communications skills, coupled with a keen sense of humor that can come across as charming and self-deprecating.

ENTPs are brilliant at detecting inefficiencies and devising innovative solutions, coupled with long-term strategies to make their vision a reality due to their outstanding reasoning skills.

They possess outstanding analytical and organizational skills, so they thrive in leadership positions where they can realize their goals of addressing inefficiencies in the business sector.

So, let’s have a look at other core personality traits that define ENTJ personalities.

Highly Driven

ENTPs favor people who emulate their own zeal for improving efficiencies and meeting their objectives as they ardently believe that inefficiencies lead to failed ventures.

So, they are often militant about achieving their aims and may come across as ruthless in achieving their goals.

ENTPS thrive in demanding work environments where they are expected to manage several complex projects that would exhaust mere mortals.

Self-Assured

Fearless ENTJs have enormous faith in their own abilities and are not easily deterred by setbacks that others would classify as a failure. These obstinate personalities believe that failures are opportunities to learn from their mistakes and to grow.

Brilliant Strategist

ENTJ’s outstanding intellect and finely tuned intuition enable them to envisage the future, and plan accordingly with risk-mitigating mitigating backup plans should their venture fail.

They are expert crisis managers who can deal with unexpected stumbling blocks, which showcases their profound leadership skills.

Charismatic Leaders

Highly gifted ENTJ possess superb communication skills and love nothing more than discussing their grandiose ideas with intelligent peers who are often struck by their charismatic passion for innovation, which in turn motivates them to reach greater heights.

Are ENTJS Self-Absorbed?

ENTJs are adept at analyzing people’s behavior and experts at knowing how they will react in certain situations, so they are master manipulators who continuously push boundaries until people capitulate.

So, it’s no wonder that they are referred to as Commander personality types as they are highly adept at devising schemes that will elicit attention in their social circles.

ENTJs come across as self-absorbed as they are adept at boasting about their illustrious achievements, and innovative ideas, with the core intention to attain their goals at any cost.

Other less flattering characteristics include being obstinate and employing an authoritarian leadership style that disregards other people’s valid input. However, if they in rare instances

consider other people’s opinions; it is only because they were forced to do so.

ENTJs also come across as enormously arrogant as they perceive themselves as intellectually superior and despise conversations with people that are less capable of profound thoughts or insights.

Due to their outstanding reasoning skills, and profound intellectual abilities, ENTJs lack empathy and are unable to consider other people’s feelings, as there is no place for sentimentality in their domains.

So, they can occasionally come across as cold or distant in their ruthless pursuit of reaching their goals and often to the detriment of their friends and families.

Can ENTJs Be Psychopaths?

The Encyclopedia of Mental Health defines Psychopathy, an antisocial personality disorder (APD), as superficially charming individuals, who demonstrate a lack of empathy (or emotional sensitivity), tend to be impulsive and disregard punitive consequences.

Other significant Psychopathic traits include a profound disregard for people’s rights, including rules and regulations, an inability to feel remorse, and a propensity towards violence.

Psychopathy may be linked to ENTJ personality traits for the reasons set out above and because they don’t really have a moral compass and are prone to being self-absorbed, narcissistic, deceptive, and ruthless.

Most psychopaths who become violent or become serial killers in their later years start off by torturing animals and demonstrating other behaviors linked to their mental illness during their formative years.

While most psychopathic serial killers have differing Myers-Briggs personalities, it is interesting to note that the prolific serial killer Ted Bundy was classified as an ENTJ personality. Although, it’s imperative to point out that psychopaths are not always violent, but they are ruthless.

Conclusion

Pathological ENTJ personalities are driven by their insatiable need to win at all costs, which in turn feeds their narcissism and their ruthless campaigns to achieve their goals at any cost.

While they can achieve enormous success due to their stubbornness, drive, charisma, and superior intelligence, their lack of empathy and general apathy towards others is a potentially volatile combination.
